• Jane Iredale – Purepressed mineral foundation

Let me tell you, it’s the things you use every day (and constantly repurchase) that you forget to blog about, such as the Jane Iredale PurePressed base mineral foundation!

Over the years, I’ve slowly made the change to lighter foundations. You might think that it’s due to a massive skin improvement but that’s not it. Yes, my skin has gotten better overtime but I still get breakouts and Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) from past spots. So what has really changed is my base makeup approach. I follow Lisa Eldridge’s ethos of using as light a base as possible whilst pinpoint concealing what requires more coverage.

I still enjoy trying out tinted moisturizers or light foundations but for two years now, I’ve been using a mineral powder foundation- namely the Jane Iredale PurePressed powder.

Jane Iredale is a natural makeup brand and this pressed powder is made from micronized minerals and antioxydant ingredients. It’s also oil-free. It does contain silicones though which I wanted to mention in case you’re sensitive to them. I haven’t had a problem with it.

Plus, it sports a mineral SPF 20 (from a combination of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide). However, I wouldn’t rely on makeup for sun protection (you wouldn’t use enough to get the stated protection): that’s just an added bonus in my opinion.

They’ve manage to create a really fine powder (their Amazing Base loose mineral powder feels even more finely milled and has an almost glossy finish). It blends seamlessly into the skin and has a satin finish.

The coverage is buildable depending on the brush you’re using. On an everyday basis, I like using a duo fiber brush to get a lighter finish. However, if I do a touch-up at the end of the day, I prefer to apply it with a denser round or flat top brush. And to tame down shine throughout the day, I use a blotting paper.

It comes in 26 shades which cater for various undertones (cool, warm and neutral). I’ve tried two shades from the range which, to me, differ in undertone whilst having a similar depth of color: warm sienna (the better match for me) has a more golden undertone than warm silk in my opinion. (The brand classify both of these shades in the warm undertone category with a different depth of color though.)

Swatches of the Jane Iredale PurePressed base mineral foundation, from top to bottom: warm sienna and warm silk.

I use this powder after applying concealer. It’s easy and quick to apply and I find that it evens out my skintone beautifully. Plus, my skin looks glowing whenever I use it. It’s a staple in my makeup bag!

The Jane Iredale PurePressed base mineral foundation retails for 42$/9.9g/.35 oz. It comes in a refill pan (you have to buy the separate compact if you wish to) which, although annoying at first for the price, is good for the environment in the long run. It lasts me a good 8-9 months which isn’t a bad value for money.

Hi – Just discovered your blog! I’ve been thinking of trying this foundation. Do you use a setting spray after applying it?

        Hi Severine!
No, I don’t use a setting spray after applying this foundation. I find that, since it’s a powder, it lasts well on me. You could add a hydrating mist though if you want a dewy finish! X
